About Operetic

A new generation of consultancy, owner operated

The person who sells you the work is the person who does it. No partner to charm you and then disappear, no graduates to inherit you once the contract is signed, and nobody here whose bonus depends on how many of them are standing on your site.

In most consultancies, the person who sells is not the person who stays

A partner wins the work. The partner is experienced, credible and expensive, and after the engagement starts you see rather less of them. The work is done by a team assembled from whoever is available, often early in their careers, learning your business at your cost and moving on once they have.

None of that is a scandal. It is simply how a leverage model works: the firm makes its margin on the gap between what the partner charges and what the team costs, so the incentive is to put as many people on your site as the engagement will bear, for as long as it will bear them.

It is worth saying plainly, because it explains things clients find baffling. Why the scope grows. Why the recommendation is so often a programme. Why the person you trusted in the room is not the person answering your emails in month three.

There is no pyramid here to feed

Operetic is owned by the people who do the work. That is a structural fact rather than a value, and it changes what we are able to recommend.

You meet the person, then you get the person

The operator who leads your engagement is in the room before anything is signed, named, and still there in month six. Never a placeholder profile that gets swapped once the contract lands.

Nobody is carrying a utilisation target

We have no bench sitting idle that needs filling, so no recommendation here is shaped by who happens to be free this quarter. The answer to a small problem is allowed to be small.

Seniority is the whole offer, not the sales team

Every leader has held the equivalent full-time role at a comparable business, not consulted around its edges. Judgement calibrated by consequence rather than by exposure.

We can afford to tell you it is not us

An owner turning down work loses a month of revenue. A partner turning down work loses a number they are measured on. That difference is why the advice here can be genuinely unwelcome.

What It Costs Us

A promise that costs nothing to make is worth nothing to read

Leadership and delivery are quoted separately on every engagement, because a blended rate is a quiet incentive to recommend more delivery. Where we run a vendor selection, we exclude ourselves and our delivery partners from the work it awards, which costs us the engagement we would otherwise be best placed to win.

Where AI is not the right lever, we say so, on a site with an AI practice. Where the problem is the proposition rather than the marketing, we say that too, and what follows is a conversation about the business rather than a programme of work we would be paid for.

Each of those is a real cost, and each is only credible because of who owns the firm. They are the constraints a leverage model cannot afford.

UK leadership, European delivery

UK-based leadership runs every client relationship and boardroom conversation. No engagement is led from offshore. The engineering, data and category-management work is built by our European sister company, in the same time zone and to the same standard.

Leadership and delivery are quoted separately, as they are on every engagement. What the arrangement buys you is delivery capacity that already exists and already works to our standards, with one point of accountability in the UK, not a second supplier to find, brief and govern yourself.

It is a subcontract, and we would rather say so than let you discover it. Owner operated does not mean everything happens under one roof. It means the person accountable to you owns the firm that is accountable to you.

The people

Named, real, and nobody appears until they have agreed to be published. The bar each of them clears is written down beside them.

How an engagement runs

The mechanics rather than the philosophy: two roles kept deliberately separate, six stages, and every material call reconciled across the disciplines.

Programmes rebooted rather than re-planned, deployment cycles cut from months to weeks, and cost taken out of work already committed.

Ask us who would actually be leading it

The quickest test of everything above is to ask for the name before you ask for a proposal. You will get one, and you will meet them before anything is signed.
